Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia called it historic. Saikia said that along with CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, many more MLAs are also likely to become ministers. BJP has got a big mandate for the third consecutive time in Assam. BJP has captured 82 seats of Assam Assembly. BJP’s ally AGP got 10 seats each. With this, NDA has got a total of 102 seats. At the same time, Congress alliance got 19 seats. AIUDF won 2 seats and Raijor Dal won 2 seats. Whereas, Congress had hoped that it would oust Himanta Biswa Sarma’s NDA government from power in Assam.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi had held several public meetings in Assam. His close associate Gaurav Gogoi also did a lot of work. Rahul Gandhi had accused Himanta Biswa Sarma of being corrupt and said that if Congress government is formed in the state, he will send Himanta to jail. However, the hopes of Rahul and Gaurav Gogoi were dashed by the people of Assam. Even Gaurav Gogoi himself lost the Assam Assembly elections. Now, after Himanta Biswa Sarma again becomes the CM of Assam, the BJP government is expected to take such steps, which may keep politics heated in the state.
