UP: Promotion of 2 ministers in the second expansion of Yogi cabinet, 6 new faces took oath
Lucknow, 10 May. The second expansion of the Yogi Adityanath cabinet in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh took place on Sunday. Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office to eight ministers in a brief ceremony held at Jan Bhawan. Of these, two ministers have been promoted while six new faces have been given place in the cabinet.
Bhupendra Chaudhary and Manoj Kumar Pandey were made cabinet ministers.
Bhupendra Chaudhary and Manoj Kumar Pandey, who were Panchayati Raj Ministers in the first government of Yogi Adityanath (2017-2022), took oath as Cabinet Ministers and Dr. Somendr Tomar and Ajit Pal took oath as Ministers of State with Independent Charge. Along with them, Krishna Paswan, Kailash Singh Rajput, Surendra Diler and Hansraj Vishwakarma took oath as Ministers of State.
Now there are total 54 ministers in UP cabinet including CM and 2 Deputy CMs.
Yogi Adityanath government 2.0 now has 54 ministers including the Chief Minister and two Deputy Chief Ministers. According to the calculation of assembly members, a maximum of 60 ministers can be made in the state. The current situation after the cabinet expansion is that there are 21 cabinet ministers including the CM and two Deputy CMs. Along with him there are 14 Ministers of State (Independent Charge) and 18 Ministers of State.

The ministers who took oath as cabinet ministers include former BJP state president Bhupendra Chaudhary and Manoj Kumar Pandey, MLA from Unchahar, Rae Bareli, who rebelled against the Samajwadi Party. Along with them, Varanasi Legislative Council member Hansraj Vishwakarma, who comes from the extremely backward caste, Krishna Paswan, Scheduled Caste MLA from Fatehpur’s Khaga seat, Surendra Diler, MLA from Khair, Aligarh, and Kailash Singh Rajput, MLA from Tirwa, Kannauj, took oath as Minister of State for the first time.
Dr. Somendra Tomar and Ajit Pal were promoted in the cabinet.
The two ministers whose stature was increased in the cabinet expansion include Dr. Somendr Tomar, BJP MLA from Meerut South Assembly constituency and Ajit Pal, BJP MLA from Sikandra, Kanpur Dehat. Dr. Tomar is currently the Minister of State for Energy and Additional Energy Sources. Now he was sworn in as Minister of State with independent charge. Whereas Ajit Pal is the Minister of State for Science and Technology and Electronics and Information Technology Department. He was also promoted and sworn in as Minister of State with Independent Charge.
The first expansion took place two years ago
It is noteworthy that the first expansion of Yogi cabinet took place on March 5, 2024, before the Lok Sabha elections. Then, keeping in mind the social equation, four new cabinet ministers were made from backward, Dalit, advanced as well as from East to West. Among them, SubhaSP President Om Prakash Rajbhar, BJP MLC Dara Singh Chauhan, RLD MLA from Purkaji seat of Muzaffarnagar Anil Kumar and BJP MLA from Sahibabad seat of Ghaziabad Sunil Kumar Sharma became ministers.
