Chennai10 May. After taking over as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, TVK chief Thalapathy Vijay announced to leave the Trichy East assembly seat on Sunday afternoon. He will continue to be the MLA from Perambur seat. Now, Trichy East Assembly seat will be declared vacant and the Election Commission will conduct by-elections on this Assembly seat within six months.
It is noteworthy that in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Thiru Vijay contested from two assembly seats – Perambur and Trichy East and won both the seats. As per rules, Vijay vacated the Trichy East assembly seat as a leader can be MLA from only one seat at a time. Ministers Sengottaiyan and Venkataramanan handed over CM Vijay’s letter regarding leaving Trichy East to Assembly Secretary Srinivasan.

Governor Arlekar administered oath at Nehru Indoor Stadium
Earlier, TVK chief Vijay took oath as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today at 10 am amid a grand ceremony at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Acting Governor of Tamil Nadu Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered him the oath of office and secrecy. After this, N. Anand, Adhav Arjun, Arun Raj, Sengottaiyan and C.T.R. Nine MLAs including Nirmal Kumar took oath as ministers.

Took charge after taking oath and also made 3 important announcements
After this, Chief Minister Vijay took charge and signed three files. These include announcements of providing free electricity up to 200 units to domestic consumers, formation of ‘Singappan’ (Lioness) special task force to enhance the safety of women and thirdly formation of Anti-Narcotics Unit to stop drug related crimes.

‘I will release a white paper on the current financial condition of Tamil Nadu’
Addressing the stage during the swearing-in ceremony, Chief Minister Vijay asserted, ‘I will release a white paper on the current financial condition of Tamil Nadu. Don’t expect everything to be found immediately, please give me some time. I will take strict steps to ensure the safety of women and fight the drug culture.
Later, on reaching the Secretariat in Chennai, Chief Minister Vijay was given a ceremonial guard of honor by the police force. After this, he went to the Chief Minister’s Office and formally took over as the Chief Minister. Government and police officials congratulated him.

First session of Tamil Nadu Assembly from Monday
Meanwhile, the first session of the 17th Assembly of Tamil Nadu will begin at 9.30 am on Monday in the Assembly Hall located at the State Secretariat. A release issued by the government on Sunday said that the newly elected members will take oath on Monday. Members have been asked to bring their election certificates while appearing for the oath-taking. After this, the election of Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be held on Tuesday.
