Team India continues to rule the ODI rankings, even a small mistake can take away the number-1 crown.

New Delhi. The Indian team has once again maintained its dominance in the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI rankings. Even after the annual update, the Indian team remains the world’s number-1 ODI team, but this time its lead has reduced slightly. Second-ranked New Zealand is now just 5 rating points behind India, due to which the battle for number-1 may become more exciting in the coming months.

After the latest update, the Indian team has 118 rating points. However, Team India has suffered a loss of one rating point. New Zealand, which is in second place, has 113 points, while world champion Australia remains at the third position with 109 points. On the other hand, South Africa has left Pakistan behind by making a spectacular jump in the ODI rankings.

South Africa has now reached fourth position with 102 points, while Pakistan has slipped to fifth position with 98 points. Sri Lanka is at sixth position with 96 points, Afghanistan (93 points) at seventh position, England (89 points) at eighth position, Bangladesh (84 points) at ninth position and West Indies (74 points) at tenth position.

This ranking is important from the World Cup point of view

This ranking update is not just a game of numbers but is also directly linked to the qualification for ICC Cricket World 2027. The teams remaining in the top-8 in the ODI rankings till March 31, 2027 will directly make a place in the upcoming World Cup. Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have already received direct entries. In such a situation, if South Africa remains in the top-8, then the chances of the ninth-placed team getting a direct World Cup ticket will also increase.

In the latest rankings, Ireland left Zimbabwe behind and took 11th position. On the other hand, the United States of America (USA) reached 13th position, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) overtook Canada to reach 19th position. Even though Team India remains number-1, New Zealand and Australia are rapidly reducing the gap. In such a situation, the upcoming ODI matches are going to be very important for India, because even a small mistake can snatch the number-1 crown from Team India.
