Congress raised questions on the existence of NTA after NEET exam was canceled

New Delhi. Congress has raised questions on the existence and functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA) over the cancellation of NEET‑UG 2026 exam. Party General Secretary (Communication) Jairam Ramesh said that the paper leak and cancellation of the examination is the latest example of failure of NTA, which has raised serious questions on its purpose and functionality.

Jairam Ramesh wrote in Errors in the answer keys in JEE Mains 2025 led to the withdrawal of 12 questions, while persistent delays in CUET affected the academic calendar of universities and pushed students towards private universities.

The Congress leader said the NTA has consistently failed to submit its annual report to Parliament and has been providing only audited financial statements. The government implemented a centralized system plagued by corruption by eliminating archaic admissions procedures and ensuring that it was unaccountable to Parliament.

Jairam said that on June 16, 2024, the Education Minister had admitted that NTA needs a lot of improvements. Even after two years, what action was taken after this confession? It is now becoming clear that not just reforms but fundamental restructuring of NTA and the entire machinery associated with it is necessary, so that it can be kept out of the corrupt hands of the Modi government.
