Relief from rain in Delhi-NCR: But Meteorological Department warns of increase in heat again
New Delhi: On Monday (May 12, 2026), the rain in many areas of Delhi-NCR gave some relief to the people from the scorching heat that they have been facing for weeks. Due to cloud cover and rain, the temperature dropped and there was some relief from the scorching heat of the day. Similar rain was seen in the capital last week also. This is a sign of rapidly changing weather in this area.
The humidity still bothered me
Let us tell you that despite the rain, weather experts say that the humidity level will remain high. Because of this, going out will still remain uncomfortable. According to the India Meteorological Department, intermittent rain and clouds may reduce the heat for some time, but most parts of the city will remain sticky.
Temperature will rise again from May 13
IMD estimates that the weather will change again from May 13, 2026. The western disturbance affecting North India is now weakening. With the clearing of the sky and the return of the bright sunshine of May, the temperature in Delhi-NCR will gradually start rising again. People may have to face heat again in the next few days.
More than normal rainfall expected across the country in May
In its monthly forecast, IMD has predicted above normal rainfall across India during May 2026. According to the department, the rainfall this month may be more than 110 percent of the long term average. However, some areas of East, North-East and East-Central India may receive less than normal rainfall.
Heat wave will prevail in many states
IMD has warned that there may be more heat than normal in some parts of the country this month. Heat wave days may increase in the foothills of the Himalayas, some areas of the east coast and states like Gujarat-Maharashtra. Day temperature may remain normal or below normal in many places, but there are chances of it being hotter than normal in large parts of South India and North-West India.
Weather moving towards El Nino
It is noteworthy that the Meteorological Department said that global climate patterns are changing. Neutral ENSO conditions in the Pacific Ocean are now moving towards El Nino. This may also affect the coming south-west monsoon.
