IPL-19: GT reached the top with fifth consecutive win, SRH lost by 82 runs in front of Rabada and Company

Ahmedabad, 12 May. As the league stage in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL-19) is nearing its end, the tussle between the frontline teams has also intensified. An example of this was seen at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Tuesday night, when in the meeting between the second and third placed teams, Gujarat Titans (GT) themselves defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a huge margin of 82 runs after settling for a normal score and reached the top of the points table for the first time with their fifth consecutive win.

The hosts could reach 168 runs with the fifties of Sudarshan and Sundar.

Gujarat Titans, forced to bat first, after a poor start of 2-34, got support from opener Sai Sudarshan (61 runs, 44 balls, two sixes, five fours) and Washington Sundar (50 runs, 33 balls, one six, seven fours) and the team reached 168 runs for five wickets.

Sunrisers’ innings collapsed for 86 runs in front of Titans’ pace battery.

During the counter action, Sunrisers Hyderabad had another disastrous start, with four batsmen returning after only 34 runs. Ultimately, Titans’ army of tall pacers i.e. ‘Player of the Match’ Kagiso Rabada (3-28), Jason Holder (3-20), impact player Prasidh Krishna (2-23) and Mohd. In front of Siraj (1-11), the visiting team was all out for 86 runs in 14.5 overs. This was the second lowest score of the current season after Delhi Capitals (75 runs).

Minimum powerplay score of both teams during the current season

The most interesting aspect of the match was that in the current run-rushing session, the minimum powerplay score (34 runs) was seen from both the teams today. The only difference was that Hyderabad had lost four wickets in that period compared to Gujarat’s two. The important reason for this was probably that this pitch proved to be one of the most difficult pitches of IPL. If the ball was coming to rest on the pitch, the new ball was swinging on both sides and it was very difficult to find opportunities to score runs on both sides of the wicket.

Maximum 16 points in the account of Titans from the eighth win

If seen, this was the biggest win for Gujarat Titans in terms of runs in IPL history. In this sequence, Shubman Gill and Company came very close to getting the playoff ticket, while now they have 16 points with their eighth win in 12 matches, while SRH, which was in second place before the match, has fallen to the third place behind RCB (14 points in 11 matches) with 14 points after their fifth defeat in 12 matches. The Hyderabadi team, which had once registered five consecutive wins in the league stage, had also reached the top after the victory over Punjab Kings on May 6.

Hyderabad’s top 4 batsmen had returned within 34 runs.

If we look at Hyderabad’s innings in front of the normal target, then Siraj and Rabada made the top four batsmen – Travis Head (zero), Abhishek Sharma (six runs, one six), Ishan Kishan (11 runs, seven balls, one six, one four) and S. Ravichandran (nine runs, one four) was returned for just 32 runs inside the powerplay.

Not a single batsman of SRH could face 20 runs.

After that, Holder and Prasidh continued the pressure while spinner Rashid Khan (1-3), who came to bowl first in the 15th over, took the last wicket of the opposition innings. The dominance of the bowlers can be easily gauged from the fact that not a single batsman could score 20 runs and among the four batsmen who reached double figures, captain Pat Cummins (19 runs, nine balls, two sixes, one four) was the highest scorer.

score card

Earlier, Gujarat also had a bad start, when Gill (five runs, one four) and Jos Buttler (seven runs, one four) fell victim to Prafulla Hinge (2-17) (2-26) in the powerplay. Whereas Nishant Sindhu (22 runs, 14 balls, one six, three fours), who led the innings with Sai, was returned by Pat Cummins (1-20) in the 10th over.

Sudarshan hits fifth fifty of the season, partnership of 60 runs with Sundar

At present, Sai got good support from Sundar and both of them handled the situation with a partnership of 60 runs in 41 balls for the fourth wicket. Sudarshan, who had already scored a century in the current season, scored his fourth consecutive and fifth half-century in total. Saqib Hussain (2-37) broke the partnership by dismissing Sai in the 17th over, while Sundar, who along with Holder (11 not out) added 40 runs in 21 balls, became Saqib’s victim in the last over after completing his second fifty of the season.
