Monsoon generally starts in Kerala around June 1, after which it moves northwards towards the rest of the country. This is where the monsoon season (June to September) begins in the country. Meanwhile, now comes the good news, Monsoon which entered Andaman on 13th May last year has reached on 16th May this year, and according to the forecast given by meteorologists, it can enter Kerala by 26th May and Maharashtra between 2nd and 5th June. Therefore, the attention of the farmers and citizens of the state is now towards the arrival of monsoon.

According to the IMD, the Southwest Monsoon is likely to enter Kerala on May 26 this year. The weather department said conditions are favorable for monsoon to advance over parts of South Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the next 24 hours.

Arrival of Monsoon in Kerala
The most comforting news for the citizens and farmers suffering from intense heat is that the Southwest Monsoon is entering the country earlier than usual (June 1) this year. According to the IMD, the monsoon is likely to enter the Kerala coast on May 26, 2026 due to a favorable weather system. Cloud cover is thick over South Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. Monsoon will officially enter Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the next 24 hours.
When will monsoon arrive in Maharashtra?
If Monsoon continues at this rate, it is highly likely to enter Maharashtra around June 5. The Meteorological Department has also indicated that the country is likely to receive slightly below normal rainfall (around 92 percent of LPA) this year due to the influence of El Nino.
Vidarbha and Marathwada
According to Skymet meteorologist Mahesh Palawat, extremely hot and dry winds from Pakistan and northwest India have entered Maharashtra. As a result, temperatures in Vidarbha, Marathwada and North Maharashtra may touch a record high of 47 to 48 degrees Celsius in the next two to three days. Temperatures in Jalgaon, Akola, Amravati and Wardha have already gone above 45 degrees Celsius. Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Hingoli, Jalna, Latur and Dharashiv will now experience the most intense heat wave.
Konkan and Mumbai
In Mumbai city, suburbs, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, the temperature and humidity have increased to such an extent that people are sweating profusely. Dark clouds are appearing in the sky from time to time, so people are hoping for rain, but for now the weather will remain dry and hot.
Thunderstorm warning in 10 states
The Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning in 10 states across the country. Wind speed can reach 70 to 80 kilometers per hour. Authorities have warned citizens not to stand under trees, near power poles or in makeshift shelters during the storm. Also, to avoid heat stroke, it is advised not to step outside unnecessarily between 12 PM and 4 PM, drink plenty of water and wear cotton clothes.
