Big initiative of MP government: Announced reserve seats in graduation for the families of martyrs.
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh government has taken a big decision for the families of martyred police, home guard and civil defense soldiers. Now, wives and children of employees who lost their lives while on duty will get a reserved seat in every college and university for graduation. The Higher Education Department has issued orders in this regard.
One super numerical seat will be available in every course
According to the new rule, if the martyr’s wife, son or daughter wants to do graduation, at least one seat will be reserved for them in every graduation course. The Higher Education Department has sent letters to the registrars and college principals of all universities and given instructions. Reservation of one additional seat has been made mandatory in the Admission Guide 2026-27.
Commissioner Higher Education made it clear that this seat will be super numerical. This means that the seats already fixed in the college will not be affected. This will be an additional seat. Additional Chief Secretary Anupam Rajan said that this step is a sensitive decision of the government to give better opportunities in education to the families of martyrs.
Who will be eligible for this seat
Only widows of police, home guard or civil defense martyrs and their dependent sons or daughters will be able to apply for this additional seat. For this, it will be necessary to provide a certificate of dependency issued from the Home Department or the concerned department. Along with this, documents required for general admission will also have to be submitted.
Candidates will have to apply by choosing a different category on the online admission portal. A maximum of one additional seat will be given in a course. If there is more than one eligible candidate then selection will be done on the basis of merit.
If the seat remains vacant then no one else will get it.
It is noteworthy that the department has also clarified that if eligible candidate is not found in any course then the seat will be kept vacant. That seat will not be given to any other category or other student. The government believes that with this initiative the families of the martyrs will get an opportunity to move forward and they will be able to complete their studies with respect.
After this decision, thousands of martyr families of the state are expected to get relief. Many families were not able to provide higher education to their children due to financial constraints. Now getting reserved seats will make it easier for them to get admission in college.
