“I have reached Oslo. I am grateful to Prime Minister Yona Gahr Storey for the warm welcome at the airport. This is the first Prime Minister-level visit to Norway in more than four decades. I am confident that this visit will provide new energy to the India-Norway friendship. I will meet Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonya and will also hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Storey,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

This is Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to Norway and the visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Norway after 43 years. Norway is an important partner country of India. Today Prime Minister Modi will participate in bilateral meetings, while on Tuesday (May 19) he will attend the third India-Nordic Summit.

This visit is considered to add new energy and strength to India-Norway relations. Economic relations between India and Norway are continuously strengthening. The total trade between India and the entire Nordic region is estimated at approximately $19 billion.

Top leaders from Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden will also participate in the Nordic conference. The first India-Nordic summit was held in Stockholm in 2018, while the second summit was held in Copenhagen in 2022. This time important issues like green energy, digitalization, defense cooperation, space technology, Arctic policy and sustainable development are likely to be discussed in the meeting.

During his visit, PM Modi will also hold bilateral talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Storey. There is a possibility of important talks between the two countries on trade, investment and technical cooperation. Both the Prime Ministers will address the India-Norway Business and Research Summit, where the focus will be on economic and research cooperation.
