Indian origin Tushar Kumar created history in Britain, became mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood at the age of just 23.

New Delhi. A 23-year-old Indian-origin youth in Britain has created history in the world of politics. This young leader named Tushar Kumar has been made the mayor of Britain’s Town of Elstree and Borehamwood. And the special thing is that he has become the youngest Indian-origin Mayor in the history of Britain. That means no person of Indian origin has ever become mayor at such a young age. Tushar Kumar is 23 years old and is of Indian origin. He has studied Political Science from the famous King’s College, London. He is associated with the Labor Party, which is a major political party in Britain.

How was the journey of becoming mayor?

Tushar entered politics when he was still studying. In 2023, he became a member or councilor of Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council. This is a local council which comes in Eastern England. Even at that time, he was one of the very young counselors. After joining the council, he first took the responsibility of Deputy Mayor i.e. Vice-Mayor and now in a special ceremony held last week, he was made the full Mayor. This ceremony took place in Fairway Hall.

What did Tushar say on becoming mayor?

Tushar said that this is a very happy and proud moment for him. He said that it is an incredible honor for him to become the youngest Indian-Origin Mayor in the history of Britain at the age of 23. He thanked all those people who supported him in this journey. Be it the people of the area, other counselors, organizations or their own family and friends. He also thanked former Mayor Dan Ozaro who provided him help and guidance when he was deputy mayor. He also welcomed Councilor Linda Smith as his new deputy mayor.

What do you want to do as mayor?

Tushar clearly said that after becoming Mayor, his first effort will be to go among the people and connect with them. He wants to help local organizations and charities. Also, he has a big dream that more young people should come forward in public service i.e. social service and politics. He said that serving this city is the biggest privilege of his life because he loves this city.
