Cockroach Janata Party’s account banned on ‘X’, new account ‘Cockroach is back’ started
Cockroach Janata Party’s account has more followers than BJP-Congress
New Delhi. The ‘X’ account of ‘Cockroach Janata Party’, which came into existence last week and was in the news with a large number of followers on social media, was banned on Thursday. However, shortly after the ban, another handle was created with the name ‘Cockroach is back’.
Its founder Abhijeet Deepke said, this was already expected because efforts were going on to hack our account since yesterday. But the government’s move has backfired. At 3.40 pm, a little over an hour after the ‘Cockroach is Back’ X handle was launched, its follower count was 16,800.
According to Deepke, Cockroach Janata Party had 2,01,000 followers on ‘X’. This party came into existence after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s remarks in which he used words like ‘parasite’ and ‘cockroach’ while expressing his displeasure with a lawyer seeking seniority.
The Chief Justice had later clarified that his statement had been misinterpreted and that his statements were specifically focused on those who enter the legal profession through ‘fake degrees’.
The Chief Justice’s first comment came on May 15 and a day later the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ came to the fore. It immediately went viral on social media, receiving support from politicians, activists, artists and a large number of youth.
While its ‘X’ account was shut down in India on Thursday, its Instagram page is active with around 1.43 crore followers and the number of followers is increasing with time. In a post on Instagram, it has been compared with the official account of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which had 88 lakh followers.
Describing Cockroach Janata Party as a satirical platform, Deepke questioned the action of banning the ‘X’ account and said that the account and this movement were growing rapidly.
The ‘X’ handle and the movement are growing, he alleged, adding thousands of followers every day. Perhaps the government is scared of this. Deepke, who was earlier associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), had posted on ‘X’ on Thursday that efforts were being made to hack his Instagram account also. Many other accounts with the name ‘Cockroach’ are also active on ‘X’. Trinamool Congress leaders Kirti Azad and Mahua Moitra showed interest in this movement along with activists like Prashant Bhushan and Anjali Bhardwaj.
