GDN poster unveiled as Madhavan announces July release
Chennai: Actor R. Madhavan has unveiled a new poster of his upcoming biographical film GDN, based on the life of inventor and industrialist Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu, popularly remembered as the “Edison of India”. The makers have also announced July 17, 2026, as the film’s worldwide release date.
Poster highlights forgotten legacy of inventor
The newly released poster carries the line, “Feared by the British… Forgotten by his countrymen,” presenting a dramatic introduction to the central figure of the story.
The image features Madhavan amid a crowd, portraying the intensity and personality of Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu, who was known for his contributions to engineering, industrial innovation and technological development in India.
The visual appears aimed at highlighting the life and achievements of a personality whose contributions are often considered underrepresented in mainstream public memory.
The film is expected to bring greater attention to Naidu’s role in India’s industrial history.
National Award-winning team reunites for project
GDN marks a reunion of the team behind Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, which received significant critical recognition.
The project is being jointly produced by Varghese Moolan Pictures and Tricolour Films.
Production responsibilities are handled by Varghese Moolan and Vijay Moolan from Varghese Moolan Pictures, along with Madhavan and Sarita Madhavan representing Tricolour Films.
The film has been written and directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar.
Film shot in Coimbatore for authenticity
According to the makers, filming was carried out entirely in Coimbatore, the birthplace of Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu.
The decision to shoot at locations connected to the inventor’s life was reportedly taken to recreate the atmosphere and setting associated with his journey.
Industry observers note that biographical films increasingly focus on historical authenticity and location accuracy to strengthen storytelling.
Ensemble cast joins Madhavan
The film features an ensemble cast including Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Priyamani, Dushara Vijayan, Thambi Ramaiah and Vinay Rai.
Music for the project has been composed by Govind Vasantha, who had also worked on Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.

With the release of the new poster, anticipation around the project is expected to grow among audiences interested in biographical and historical cinema.
