Flash flood wreaks havoc in Arunachal Pradesh, many bridges washed away; Villages lost contact

Flash flood has caused massive devastation in Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. Contact with many villages has been lost. Houses have been heavily damaged. Many bridges have been washed away. India Meteorological Department had issued a red alert of heavy rain today i.e. on Friday and very heavy rain on 23 May. The district administration urged people to stay away from rivers and streams.

 

Officials said the Nyo Koro Bana RCC bridge near Ningping village and the police bridge connecting Longte village to Giba headquarters were washed away in the strong current. The flash flood in Ningping village has left a trail of devastation. About seven houses here have been heavily damaged. Livestock, agricultural land and other properties have been damaged. The district administration says that the situation is being monitored. The damage is also being assessed.

Heavy rain alert on Sunday

The Meteorological Center has issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rain in Upper Subansiri, Kamle, Kra Dadi, Kurung Kumey, Lower Subansiri, Siang Belt and adjoining districts on Saturday. An official says that similar situation may continue till Tuesday. Heavy rain is expected on Sunday. On the other hand, the District Disaster Management Authority appealed to the general public not to go to the river banks and refrain from fishing.

Two youths saved the child’s life

A 12-year-old boy started drowning in Subansiri river amid heavy rains. Meanwhile, two youths displayed extraordinary courage and were successful in saving the life of the child by jumping into the river. According to media reports, a boy reached the river bank near Daporijo to collect wood. But in the sudden flood he was washed away in the river. Meanwhile, two youths named Kuki Hali and Baku Ropuk noticed the child trapped in the river. Both of them entered the swollen river and rescued the child safely.
