Weather May 23: Monsoon countdown begins, alert of stormy rain in 13 states

New Delhi. Weather 23 May 2026: The countdown to monsoon has started amid the scorching heat in the states of North India including Delhi, UP, Bihar, MP, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab. According to IMD, in the next 3-4 days, the monsoon will advance into south-east Arabian Sea, south-west and south-east Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Andaman Sea and some more areas of east-central Bay of Bengal. Monsoon may cause heavy rains in the Northeast along with Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

According to IMD, the scorching heat will continue in Delhi for the next 3 days. The Meteorological Department has issued ‘Red Color Warning’ for the next three days and ‘Orange Warning’ has been issued for the next three days. There is an orange alert regarding heat wave for Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha in the coming 6-7 days. Heat wave may be seen in many places of Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and adjoining Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned of stormy rain in 13 states. During this period, winds can blow at a speed of 65 kilometers per hour.

How will the weather be in Delhi-NCR?
Delhi-NCR (23 to 27 May): There is an orange alert of heat wave in Delhi-NCR also for the coming 6-7 days. Apart from Delhi, the scorching heat has made life difficult for people in the entire NCR including Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram. According to IMD, in the coming days between May 23 and May 27, the maximum day temperature may be 45 degrees Celsius and the minimum may be 31 degrees.

Odisha (May 23): According to Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, there is a possibility of severe heat wave in 10 areas in the state. ‘Yellow alert’ (be careful) has been issued for several other districts including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Bargarh, Angul, Sonpur, Boudh, Balasore, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Puri and Khurda. However, lightning and drizzle along with strong winds and thunder are also expected in many districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Balasore and Cuttack.
