There is a wave of mourning in the Indian cricket team amid IPL 2026. Former fast bowler SL Akshay reportedly died of a heart attack during a club match on Sunday. SL was only 39 years old. He was playing for Sapphire CC in the KSCA Third Division League match in Bengaluru. In this match, he bowled 4 overs, but after that he suddenly started feeling restlessness and chest pain. Gradually his health deteriorated and he went out of the field.

Made his mark as a fast bowler

When his colleagues saw that the situation was getting out of control, they immediately took him to the nearest hospital, but the doctors could not save him. Akshay was a part of the strong Karnataka team that won the Ranji Trophy title in 2014-15. In domestic cricket, he made a name for himself in the cricket world with his fast bowling.

Huge loss to Karnataka cricket

The demise of this brilliant cricketer has come as a big shock to the Karnataka cricket world. Also, many former officials and cricketers have expressed deep grief over this. Former Indian cricketer Hodda Ganesh has shared an emotional post on the demise of SL Akshay. Hodda Ganesh wrote, “Very bad news for the cricket world. 39 year old fast bowler SL Akshay, whom I had seen very closely since his Under-19 days, passed away today while playing a division match.”

He wrote further. “I have no words to express my grief. A soft-spoken man, who played with good success for Karnataka in 2011/12, is no more with us. May your soul rest in peace Akshay.”
