Supreme Court places interim stay on arrest order of former Nepal Prime Minister Deuva and his wife

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court of Nepal on Monday put an interim stay on the arrest order of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuva and his wife Dr. Arju Rana Deuva. A joint bench of Justice Mahesh Sharma Paudel and Justice Nityanand Pandey issued this order while hearing the petition filed against the arrest warrant of the government.

The Deuva couple are currently in Hong Kong. Earlier, Interpol had also reportedly refused to take action on the government’s request in this case. On May 19, a bench of Justice Meghraj Pokharel issued a show cause order in the same case and directed the government to submit a written reply within 15 days. The money laundering department had obtained permission from the Kathmandu district court to arrest Deuba.
