Jal Jeevan Mission Scam: More than 600 projects under Jal Jeevan Mission in Jammu and Kashmir are completed on paper, while there is no sign on the ground.
New Delhi. Jal Jeevan Mission Scheme was started in all the states of the country with the aim of providing tap water to every house, but on the contrary, cases of large-scale irregularities have come to light under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources associated with the investigation committee said that investigation has revealed that more than 600 projects have been shown to be complete on paper, while no existence of them has been found on the ground.

A committee headed by retired judge and MLA Hasnain Masoodi is investigating the Jal Jeevan Mission Scheme scam. The committee can submit its report to the state government within a week. According to sources, a total of 3200 projects were approved under Jal Jeevan Mission in Jammu and Kashmir. Of these, 1800 projects are in Kashmir division and 1400 in Jammu division. Till now, work on more than 900 projects is incomplete and work on more than 400 has not been started even though payment has been released in the name of these projects.
Sources said that amid the scorching heat, the water crisis is deepening in rural areas. In many villages, water is not reaching taps and overhead tanks. Due to incomplete projects, people still have to carry water from natural sources. Fears of a big scam are being raised in this central scheme started with the aim of providing tap water to every house in rural areas.
The issue of Jal Jeevan Mission scam was raised in the budget session of the Assembly.
Even in the budget session of the Assembly, there was an uproar over irregularities, incomplete works and non-commencement of many projects in Jal Jeevan Mission. After this, the tenure of the committee investigating the case was extended till May 31. After the investigation report of the committee comes out, there is a possibility of a big scam coming to light in Jal Jeevan Mission.

Allegations of scam of about Rs 13 thousand crore in Jal Jeevan Mission have already come to light. It is alleged that the amount was not used on ground works and the expenditure was shown on paper. This matter was exposed by IAS Officer Ashok Parmar. After this the Managing Director (MD) of JJM was removed from the post. Departmental investigation is also going on in this matter. The committee will submit its investigation report on this also.
