Opposition MLAs in Assam opposed UCC, said – public will not get benefits!

The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill was introduced in the Assam Assembly by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Atul Bora on Monday. Discussion on this bill is going on in the assembly session. MLAs and ministers of the ruling party are calling UCC beneficial for all sections. At the same time, leaders of opposition parties are continuously opposing it.

Congress MLA Zakir Hussain Sikdar said, “There is no need for UCC in Assam. There will be no benefit to the people of Assam once UCC is implemented. It has been brought only for political agenda. It has been brought for the benefit of BJP and will not bring any benefit to our people.”

Raijor Dal president and MLA Akhil Gogoi said, “UCC is an attack on the private lives of the people of Assam. It gives a way for the state to keep an eye on people’s personal privacy. The bureaucracy will keep an eye on your lifestyle and your life will be directly monitored. The Supreme Court has repeatedly said that nothing can be done in the Assembly on private life. In such a situation, the Chief Minister has brought this bill to keep an eye on people’s lives. We will get the UCC back.”

Congress MLA Tanjeel Hussain said, “We oppose the UCC and we will protest in the upcoming session.” Meanwhile, Assam Assembly Speaker Ranjit Kumar Das said, “It will definitely be very good for Assam. This will also be good for the minority women of Assam. The government has brought the UCC bill and I will try to cooperate with everyone regarding this bill.”

Ahead of the assembly session, Assam Assembly Speaker Ranjit Kumar Das said, “Today will definitely be a very good day for Assam. The government has brought the UCC Bill and I will try to cooperate with everyone regarding this bill.”
