Litchi available in the market can be poisonous, identify the real one with these 3 easy tricks
As soon as the summer season arrives, along with juicy mangoes, sweet and juicy litchi also arrives in the markets. Litchi is not only delicious in taste, but it is also very beneficial for health. Rich in Vitamin C and water, litchi helps in keeping the body hydrated and increases immunity. But, do you know that the litchi that you are eating with great gusto is actually naturally ripe? Nowadays, in order to earn profit, many businessmen use chemical injection to ripen litchi quickly and paint it bright red to make it look fresh and attractive. Litchi containing such chemicals can cause serious harm to your health. Let us know about those 3 easy and best tricks, with the help of which you can easily differentiate between real and fake litchi. What is the main difference between real and fake litchi? Real Litchi: Naturally ripe real litchi does not have uniform color. It may be red, pink, light brown or at times light green. On removing its stalk, sometimes small natural insects can be found, which is proof of its purity. Fake Litchi: Litchi cooked with chemicals or injections will look perfect red and beautiful from outside, but it will never contain insects. This litchi starts rotting very quickly and when peeled, it appears black or rotten from inside. 3 easy ways to identify litchi containing chemicals 1. Identify by looking at color and shine (The Color Test) While buying litchi, first of all pay attention to the color of its peel. If the color of litchi is mixed (like somewhere pink, somewhere red or brown), then it is completely real. On the contrary, if all the litchis kept in the basket appear to be of the same dark red colour, extremely shiny and glossy, then understand that they have been colored with artificial colours. 2. Smell and Taste Test: Naturally ripe real litchi has a sweet and fragrant aroma. Litchi with chemicals either do not have any smell, or they have a strange bitter or chemical smell. Taste it: Often the shopkeepers themselves peel a good litchi and feed it to you. "Eat it and see how sweet it is." Instead of eating the litchi given by the shopkeeper, pick another litchi from the pile yourself and taste it. If the taste seems tasteless, bland or strangely bitter, then do not buy it at all. 3. Water and Tissue Paper Test: This is the most accurate method. If you suspect litchi, you can try these two small tests at home or at the store: Water test: Put the litchi in a clean glass or cup filled with water. If artificial color is applied on litchi, it will start leaching into the water and the color of the water will change. Real litchi does not leave any color when put in water. Tissue paper test: Keep a tissue paper with you and moisten it slightly. Now rub this wet tissue gently on the litchi peel. If red or pink color appears on the tissue paper, then it is clear that chemical color has been applied to the litchi. Health advice: Never eat litchi directly after bringing it from the market. Before using, soak litchi in clean water for at least half an hour, so that the effect of dust and external chemicals accumulated on it can be reduced to a great extent.
