Supreme Court’s new order regarding TET exam, know who got relief and whose shock
A very big and relief news has come from the Supreme Court for thousands of teachers across the country. The court has extended the deadline for teachers to pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) by one year. After this decision of the court, now the affected teachers have time till 31 August 2028 to qualify TET. Earlier this deadline was fixed as 31 August 2027.
Actually, this whole matter is related to those teachers whose rules regarding appointment were changed. However, by extending the deadline, the court has given the teachers some more time to prepare, but has also completely rejected another major demand of theirs.
What was the demand of the teachers and why did the court refuse?
Seeing the seriousness of the matter, a group of teachers had filed a revision petition in the Supreme Court. In this petition, it was demanded that all the teachers appointed before 2009 should be completely kept out of the scope of mandatory TET. The teachers argued that since they were appointed before the Right to Education Act (RTE) came into force, this rule should not be imposed on them.
But the bench of Supreme Court Justice Dipankar Dutta did not accept this argument of the teachers. The court made it clear that TET is mandatory for quality education and no one can be completely exempted from it. Rejecting this revision petition, the bench only issued an order to extend the time limit by one year.
