Third phase of SIR starts from Saturday, BLO will reach door to door in 16 states
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has announced the launch of the third phase of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists with the aim of making the country’s electoral process more transparent and accurate. This campaign will start from May 30 and under this, comprehensive verification of voter lists will be done in 16 states and three union territories of the country. According to the Election Commission, about 36.73 crore voters will be affected by this process.
What did the commission say?
According to the information released by the Commission, to make this campaign successful, more than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will go door-to-door to verify the voters. Apart from this, 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLA) appointed by various political parties will also cooperate in this process, so that transparency and fairness is maintained.
The Election Commission said that this program has been prepared in coordination with the current census and house listing process, so that there is no hindrance in administrative work. In this phase, the revision campaign will be conducted in many states including Delhi, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Telangana, Punjab, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Odisha, Sikkim, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura. Along with this, Union Territories like Chandigarh and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu will also be included in it.
The Election Commission has also fixed the dates for door-to-door verification by BLOs for different states. In some states this process will start from the end of May, while in other states the campaign will run in a phased manner till June and September. After completion of revision, the final voter list will be published on different dates in the respective states.
The Commission has also clarified that about the voters whose forms will not be returned, the BLO will collect information from the people nearby and investigate the situations like absence, death, transfer or double entry. Also instructions have been given that no officer associated with this process will be transferred without the permission of the Election Commission.
Earlier, the SIR process has been completed in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and many other states. According to the Commission, during the second phase, a large number of ineligible names were removed from the voter list, which also included the names of lakhs of dead voters.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar appealed
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar appealed to all the voters for active participation in this campaign and said that its objective is to retain the names of only eligible voters in the list and to make the election process more credible.
