The heat is oppressing Delhi these days. The day temperature is going from 42 to 43 degrees Celsius, due to which it is becoming difficult for people to spend the day without fan, cooler and AC. Amidst this scorching heat, there was power cut in the main building of ‘Old Delhi Railway Station’ for two hours. Dozens of passengers looked distressed due to power failure. People were seen sweating without electricity in the rest room (premium lodge) and AC waiting hall built on the platform of the main building. On enquiry, it came to light that there was a problem with the electricity somewhere.
However, a passenger is being charged Rs 20 for an hour’s stay in the AC waiting hall, while the fare for children is Rs 10. After entering the AC waiting hall, AC, fans and lights were found switched off. On enquiry, it came to light that there was no electricity for an hour. An employee told that this AC waiting hall was inaugurated only a week ago.

This problem occurs in many places including elevators.
During this time, the passengers kept coming and at the counter they were told that there was no electricity, after hearing which the passengers were seen returning from there. During this time, when asked, a passenger told that he stayed with his family in the AC waiting hall for 20 minutes but left from there due to the heat. Due to electricity problem in the main building, not only the lights of Premium Lodge and AC waiting hall went out, but this problem occurred at many places including the lift here.
What came to light in the investigation?
After seeing the problems of the passengers, upon investigation, it was found that the ‘wire’ above the main building of Old Delhi Railway Station has been burnt. These wires are 10 to 15 years old. These have not been replaced, due to the old age of these wires, there is a heavy load on them, which they could not bear and got burnt.
Importance of Old Delhi Railway Station
210 to 215 trains run daily from Old Delhi Railway Station. These days, due to summer holidays and high number of passengers, Railways is also running 4-5 special trains from here, through which lakhs of people are traveling daily. Passengers who have time for their train to arrive take the help of these AC halls to escape the heat.

What did the Railways say?
However, when asked the reason for power outage, Senior Section Engineer – Power (SSE) of Old Delhi Railway Station said that due to the storm and load, the wire got burnt, work is being done to repair it. He told that this problem has arisen in the main building, but all the departments here are being given electricity little by little.
He also informed that a letter has been sent to replace the old wires. The engineer also said that the problem of arrows will be solved soon in the coming time.
