Big relief to 65 thousand employees in Punjab, Bhagwant Mann government abolished contract system

Tezzbuzz Desk – The Punjab government has taken a big decision to provide relief to thousands of employees of the state. In the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the proposal to phase out the contract and outsourcing system in Group C and Group D category jobs has been approved.

The government will now present ‘Punjab State Outsourced Personnel Bill-2026’ and ‘Punjab Contractual Personnel Bill-2026’ in the Assembly in this regard. The objective of these laws is to provide more protection and government facilities to employees working on outsourced and temporary basis for a long time.

After the approval of the Cabinet, the government has also approved an ordinance, which will be sent to the Governor. After getting approval, it will be presented as a bill in the Assembly. The government claims that this decision will benefit about 65 thousand employees of the state, who are working in various departments on outsourced or contract basis.

Under the new system, the employees will first be taken out of the outsourcing system and brought into the government contract structure. After this, the process of their regularization will be taken forward. If regularized, the employees will get salary, leave, service security and all other facilities which are available to normal government employees.

The government has also made special provisions for employees working in hazardous categories. Such employees who have completed three years of service will get benefits on priority basis. Whereas in non-hazardous category, employees working for five years or more will be included in the first phase.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that ending exploitation of employees is the priority of the government. He also clarified that regular recruitment will be promoted in future and no employee will be removed from service without due process.

According to Mann Sarkar, in the last four years, about 65 thousand youth have been given regular government jobs in the state. The government believes that the new step will provide stability and better working environment to the employees.
