Kolkata: Protest against Abhishek Banerjee in Sonarpur, slapped and eggs thrown!
According to the information, after receiving notice for questioning by CID on Saturday afternoon, Abhishek Banerjee left for Sonarpur from his Kalighat Road residence in Kolkata. On the way, some women in Kamalgazi area protested by showing him black flags.
The protest intensified upon reaching Sonarpur. A large number of local people, including women, started raising slogans against him and addressed him as “thief”. During this, Abhishek Banerjee got down from his car and started moving forward on the motorcycle of a local TMC worker.
Meanwhile, the crowd of protesters moved towards them. It is alleged that some women pushed him and even slapped him. Many protesters threw eggs at him, while some also threw stones, although the stones did not hit him. His shirt also got torn during the uproar. After getting eggs on his head, he wore a cricket helmet for protection.
After the incident, Abhishek Banerjee alleged that the attack was carried out by BJP-backed goons. He said he had gone to meet his party worker Sanju Karmakar, who was reportedly a victim of post-poll violence. He also claimed that police were not present there at the time of the attack.
The TMC MP said that he will approach the Calcutta High Court regarding this matter and will also inform West Bengal Governor RN Ravi about the entire incident.
It is noteworthy that Abhishek Banerjee was away from public programs since May 4 after the assembly election results were declared. On Saturday he participated in public programs for the first time. Earlier, he had also met another party worker, a victim of alleged post-poll violence in Beliaghata area of North Kolkata.
