New Delhi: After a long battle, female wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s dream of playing the Asian Games was finally shattered. Veteran female wrestler has faced defeat at the hands of young wrestler Meenakshi Goyat in the semi-finals of the Asian Games Trials held at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday. However, despite this defeat, Vinesh’s courage did not break and while leaving, she gave a new challenge to Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh.

Pointed towards Sanjay Singh after the defeat
Minakshi wrestled down Vinesh Phogat in the semifinal at the Asiad Trials.
Minakshi won 6-4 in an intense match.

Meenakshi Goyat performed brilliantly and defeated the veteran female wrestler 6-4. Immediately after the defeat, Vinesh Phogat went out of the mat, but after a few moments she returned again and pointing towards Sanjay Singh, she said, ‘I will be back.’ This reaction of Vinesh is going viral rapidly.
Withdrawal after Supreme Court intervention
With this defeat, Vinesh’s comeback attempt and her chance to qualify for the Asian Games to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan later this year, ended. Vinesh was allowed to participate in this competition only after the intervention of the Supreme Court and the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), but this defeat of 31-year-old Vinesh also ended a tumultuous and emotionally very stressful period of the last 48 hours.

Vinesh took part in the trials at a time when there was a lot of uncertainty about her participation. WFI had initially restricted him to 50 kg category, which he strongly opposed. Following discussions within the federation and the intervention of WFI president Sanjay Singh, the decision was reversed on Saturday morning and he was allowed to compete in his preferred 53 kg category.
Defeated Nishu in the quarterfinal match
In the first match on Saturday, Vinesh registered a resounding 7-1 win against Jyoti, but the quarterfinal match proved to be a much tougher test for her. Facing Nishu, Vinesh had to go through a tough fight, the outcome of which remained uncertain till the last moments. Using her experience, Vinesh won closely 7-6 and secured her place in the top-4. Vinesh fell just 2 wins away from her target of making it to the Asian Games.
However, as the day progressed, the atmosphere at the trials became more and more tense. According to reports from the venue, there was a tense situation between the WFI coaches and officials during Vinesh’s quarterfinal match, which added even more drama to an already high-pressure match.
Gave tough competition to Meenakshi Goyat
In the semi-finals, she faced Meenakshi Goyat, who is considered one of the strongest contenders in this category. This match was as per expectations, in which both the wrestlers gave tough competition to each other and scored points. In the end, Meenakshi maintained her composure to win 6-4 and shatter Vinesh’s dream of representing India in the Asian Games.
