In this meeting, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself proposed the name of DK Shivakumar, whose name was Dr. G. God strongly supported. After this, without any opposition, all the MLAs unanimously elected DK Shivkumar as their new leader. Soon after being elected leader of the legislature party, Shivakumar left for Raj Bhavan along with senior leaders.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot dissolved the Council of Ministers soon after Siddaramaiah’s resignation, although he was asked to continue as the acting Chief Minister until new arrangements were made.
