Election announced for 7 vacant seats in Karnataka Legislative Council, voting on June 18

Bengaluru. Notification for elections has been issued to fill seven vacant seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council. Election Notification has been issued by Karnataka Assembly Secretary and Reporter MK Vishalakshi (MK Vishalakshi, Secretary and Reporter, Karnataka Legislative Assembly) on Monday.

The vacancies have arisen due to the retirement of Legislative Council members Govindaraju (Congress), Naseer Ahmed (Congress), MTB Nagaraj (BJP), Pratap Singh Nayak (BJP), Tippanappa Kamkanur (Congress), Sunil Valyapure (BJP) and BK Hariprasad (Congress). The nomination process started as soon as the notification was released.

According to the election schedule, the last date for filing nomination has been fixed as June 8. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on June 9, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 11. If necessary, voting will be held on June 18 from 9 am to 4 pm in room number 106 located on the first floor of Vidhan Soudha. Counting of votes will begin at 5 pm on the same day and the election process will end on June 20.

Karnataka Legislative Assembly Secretary Vishalakshi will be the Election Official and Karnataka Legislative Assembly Director BS Mahalingesh will be the Assistant Election Officer. Candidates have been directed to submit their nominations in Form D and at least 10 sitting MLAs must put their signatures in support of the candidate.

Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates will have to deposit Rs 5,000 and other candidates Rs 10,000 at the time of submitting nomination. The importance of this election being held amidst the ongoing political developments in Karnataka is even greater because the major parties will field candidates keeping in mind their legislative power and political interests. Detailed information regarding the candidates and party nominations is expected to be available in the coming days.
