Alpha to focus on assassin origin story, not India-Pakistan alliance
Mumbai: Speculation surrounding the storyline of the upcoming action thriller Alpha has been dismissed by sources close to the project, who have clarified that the film will not feature an India-Pakistan spy partnership or a joint mission narrative.
The film, which marks Alia Bhatt‘s entry into the popular YRF Spy Universe, is reportedly set to introduce a fresh storyline that differs significantly from earlier films in the franchise.
No India-Pakistan friendship angle
According to sources associated with the production, reports claiming that the story revolves around Indian and Pakistani operatives joining forces are inaccurate.
The source stated that Alpha will not feature a friendship between Indian and Pakistani agents, nor will it include a cross-border mission aimed at diplomatic reconciliation.
Instead, the film is expected to focus on a highly trained assassin operating independently, with the narrative centred on action, survival and personal transformation.
The makers are reportedly aiming to avoid familiar tropes often associated with espionage thrillers and introduce a distinct character-driven story within the YRF Spy Universe.
Alia Bhatt to play an assassin
Unlike previous protagonists in the franchise, Alia Bhatt’s character is said to be an assassin rather than a conventional spy.
Sources indicate that the film serves as an origin story, tracing the journey of a young girl who is trained from childhood to become a lethal operative.
Raised in a harsh environment and conditioned to trust no one, the character reportedly evolves into a formidable assassin capable of carrying out missions with ruthless precision.
The storyline is expected to explore her transformation from a vulnerable child into a highly skilled “lone wolf” operative.
A darker and more personal narrative
Industry insiders suggest that Alpha will place greater emphasis on the protagonist’s emotional and psychological journey than on geopolitical alliances.
The film is expected to examine themes such as isolation, survival, loyalty and identity while maintaining the large-scale action sequences that have become a hallmark of the spy universe.
By focusing on an assassin’s backstory, the filmmakers aim to offer audiences a different perspective within the franchise’s established world.
Star-studded cast joins the project
Alongside Alia Bhatt, the film features Sharvari in a key role.
The cast also includes Bobby Deol as the primary antagonist and Anil Kapoor in a pivotal role.
The project is directed by Shiv Rawail, who previously received acclaim for the series The Railway Men.
Release scheduled for July 2026
As anticipation continues to build, Alpha is being positioned as a high-octane action entertainer with a fresh narrative approach within the YRF Spy Universe.
The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 3, 2026, and is expected to be one of the most anticipated Bollywood releases of the year.
With the makers now clarifying the direction of the story, audiences can expect a film centred on an assassin’s rise rather than a traditional cross-border spy alliance.
