Big decision of Modi government, two top CBSE officials transferred

Tezzbuzz Desk – The Central Government has taken a major administrative step amid the controversies arising over the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The government has transferred CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta. This decision is being considered important amidst the questions being raised on the evaluation process of the board and the continuously increasing complaints.

Along with this, the Central Government has also constituted a high level inquiry committee to investigate the alleged irregularities in the on-screen marking system. This committee is headed by Capacity Building Commission (CBC) chief S. Radha Chauhan will do it. The committee has been directed to conduct a detailed investigation of the entire matter and submit its report to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) within a month.

According to the instructions issued by the government, the investigation committee will also be able to take the assistance of officers and experts from other departments if necessary. The responsibility of administrative and technical support of the committee has also been entrusted to the Capacity Building Commission.

What is OSM system?

Under the CBSE’s on-screen marking system, students’ answer sheets are scanned and made available digitally on the examiners’ computer screens. The board claims that this technology makes the evaluation process fast, transparent and fair. However, after its implementation many students and parents have raised serious questions.

What are the complaints of the students?

Students and parents allege that in many cases there was a difference between the marks declared after the evaluation and the answer sheets. Some students claimed that they got much lower marks than expected, while in some cases it was also alleged that the answer sheet displayed for evaluation did not match their actual copy.

Apart from this, complaints like poor scanning of answer sheets, technical glitches, errors in uploading marks and lack of transparency in the digital evaluation process have also come to light. Many parents have also raised questions about the revaluation process and said that they were not provided clear information.

Now all eyes are on the report of the inquiry committee, which will make it clear whether there was actually any serious irregularity in the OSM system or not. This step of the government is being considered an important effort towards ensuring accountability and transparency in the education system.
