A crowd of crores will gather in Tehran to bury Khamenei after 3 months of his death.
New Delhi: Former Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will be laid to rest three months after his death. After his death on 28th February, the Government of Iran has now started preparations on a large scale for his last rites and funeral procession.
The government has also announced three days of state mourning. An emotional atmosphere is being seen across the country regarding Khamenei’s last farewell. Security and arrangements are being strengthened in many big cities including the capital Tehran.
Funeral procession will take place in three big cities
According to Iranian officials, Khamenei’s funeral procession will pass through major religious cities such as Tehran, Qom and Mashhad. Large scale public meetings and prayer programs will be organized in these cities. The government says that lakhs of people can come to bid last farewell to their former supreme leader. This is the reason why the administration is making special arrangements to handle the crowd.
The main program will run for 24 hours in Tehran
The biggest event of Khamenei’s funeral will be held in the capital Tehran. According to officials, the main program here can continue for 24 hours continuously. Tehran’s Deputy Mayor Mohammad Amin Tavakoli-Zadeh said that a huge crowd is expected to gather in the capital. The city administration estimates that around 2 crore people may attend the last farewell programme.
Security agencies on alert
In view of such a large crowd, security agencies have been put on high alert. Special arrangements are being made for traffic, medical facilities and accommodation of people in the city. According to Iranian media reports, special prayer meetings will also be organized across the country during the funeral. The government is considering it as one of the biggest public events in the history of Iran.
Khamenei was counted among the most influential faces of Iran’s politics and religious system for a long time. After his death, there is a mourning and emotional atmosphere in the country.
