Bengaluru: A new chapter has finally begun in Karnataka politics. Veteran Congress leader and trouble-shooter D.K. Shivakumar on Wednesday took the oath of office and secrecy as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office to him as the Chief Minister in a grand ceremony organized at the ‘Glass House’ located in Lok Bhavan, Bengaluru.

The Congress high command itself was present to witness this historic moment, which included party president Mallikarjun Kharge, former president Rahul Gandhi and organization general secretary K.C. Many top leaders including Venugopal attended. For 8-time MLA DK Shivakumar, this swearing-in is like a fulfillment of his long political struggle and dream of becoming the Chief Minister.

The path to captaincy opened after Siddaramaiah’s resignation.

The long-running political tussle between DK Shivakumar and former CM Siddaramaiah over the post of Chief Minister came to an end last week. Following the instructions of the Congress high command, Siddaramaiah had resigned from his post on May 28, after which the path was completely cleared for Shivakumar to become the Chief Minister.

Along with Chief Minister Shivakumar, 13 other senior leaders of his cabinet have also been sworn in as cabinet ministers. In this new cabinet, full attention has been given to regional and social equations.

Of. H. Muniyappa: 78-year-old Muniyappa is a senior Dalit leader of Congress. He has been a 7-time Lok Sabha MP from Kolar seat and former Union Food and Supplies Minister. This time he has become a part of the cabinet by electing MLA from Devanahalli seat for the first time.

Yatindra Siddaramaiah: Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son Yatindra Siddaramaiah has also got a place in the Shivakumar cabinet.
