What is the specialty of this day?

On this day, in the Bengali society, the son-in-law is ushered into the house by performing tilak of curd and aarti. On this day, mother-in-law takes bath early in the morning and worships Goddess Shashthi. After the puja, as soon as the daughter and son-in-law come home, both are worshiped. Shashthi Devi water, Durva, betel leaf, betel nut for worship, sweet curd, flowers and fruits are kept in the plate. The water used in the worship of Shashthi Devi is sprinkled on the son-in-law and daughter. After this his aarti takes place. Then by tying a yellow thread to Goddess Shashthi, all kinds of protection and long life are prayed for.

Special dishes are made for son-in-law

According to the tradition of Bengal, especially the son-in-law is fed sweets, seasonal fruits including mango and litchi. After this, there is a custom of feeding a special dish, in which many types of dishes are prepared from vegetarian to non-vegetarian. During this time, the jamai is also fanned with a hand fan. After this, the son-in-law and daughter are sent off with new clothes and gifts. Only after this the mother breaks her fast by drinking water.

The women of the village cut the branch of date palm and make a plate like shape and this plate is used in puja, in which Durva, paddy, Karamcha, new date leaves, betel nut and black sesame seeds are kept. On the day of Shashthi Tithi, in the morning, after keeping all the materials in hands, after taking bath, the children are fanned in wet clothes and it is wished that the children remain away from all kinds of physical problems throughout their life.
