Earthquake in Nepal due to a statement by PM Balen Shah… The same Gen-Z who put you on the throne is now asking for resignation.

Kathmandu. A statement by Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah has created an earthquake in the country. The same Gen Z which brought Balen to power is now demanding his resignation. Protests are taking place against him at many places in Nepal. According to the information, many student organizations have termed their own PM’s statement as anti-national. Students have also taken out a torch procession in Kathmandu. But what happened that Balen, who emerged as the choice of the youth after the violent protests that took place in the country last year, has to suffer so much from the students?

To understand this controversy, we must first understand the youth of Nepal. There were violent protests in Nepal last year. Youth and Gen-Z voters, fed up with traditional political parties, corruption and instability, organized a massive movement and elected Balen Shah as their leader. Balen Shah was being seen as a new ‘system reformer’ moving away from traditional politics. However, now the Balen government is ignoring the youth. Many students of the country are so angry that they have publicly demanded his resignation.

  • Anger erupted over a statement on India

The latest reason for the anger against Balen Shah is a statement given by him in the Parliament. Balen Shah recently gave a statement regarding the long-running Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura border standoff between India and Nepal. Balen Shah said in his speech that just as India has occupied Nepal’s land, in the same way Nepal has also occupied India’s land. Along with this, he also talked about taking help from countries like Britain and China to resolve this dispute. Then the nationalist camp of Nepal got enraged.

This statement of Balen Shah is being considered as weakening the traditional territorial claims of Nepal in his country. The opposition has stalled the Parliament. At the same time, the alliance of big student organizations issued a joint statement and gave an ultimatum directly to the Prime Minister. Student organizations say that this is not just a slip of the tongue, but is against the national interests and sovereignty of Nepal. Students took to the streets of Kathmandu and raised slogans against Balen Shah, taking out torchlight processions and demanding that the PM immediately withdraw his statement, apologize to the Nepali people or resign from his post. If this is not done, a warning has been given of demonstrations across the country.

Resentment is burning even more than before

This is not the first reason why the youth are angry with the current PM. Earlier this year, the Balen Shah government had issued orders to limit student politics and student organizations from educational institutions in the country as part of its ‘reformist agenda’. The students strongly opposed this decision of the government and the matter reached the court. The Supreme Court of Nepal put a stay on this decision of the government, which caused a lot of embarrassment to Balen Shah. Since then student organizations were looking for an opportunity. Now PM’s statement on border dispute has added fuel to the burning fire.

India also gave a befitting reply

India has also given a befitting reply to Nepali PM’s statement. India on Tuesday completely rejected the role of any third party in resolving the border dispute with Nepal. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that both sides should resolve the border issue through bilateral talks. Let us tell you that there is an old border dispute between Nepal and India regarding Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani. India has made it clear many times that these areas are part of Uttarakhand.

“There is a bilateral mechanism between India and Nepal to resolve all border issues. It should be clear to all concerned parties that there is no role for any third party in the bilateral matter between India and Nepal,” Jaiswal said in a press briefing. He further said, “About 98 per cent of the India-Nepal border has been demarcated, but some parts are still unresolved. This situation arises due to the change in the course of the Gandak River. Besides, some cases of encroachment on ‘no-man’s land’ and cross-border occupation have been reported in some marked areas of the border. Both the countries are trying to resolve this.”
