Big blow to Trump’s peace initiative, West Asia’s crisis increases due to Hezbollah’s refusal

New Delhi: International efforts to restore peace in West Asia have once again suffered a major setback. Iran-backed extremist organization Hezbollah has flatly refused to accept the new ceasefire agreement proposed for Lebanon.

Soon after this, Israel also adopted an aggressive stance and made it clear that its army will not retreat from Southern Lebanon at any cost. Both these developments have put into serious trouble the diplomatic efforts of US President Donald Trump under which he wanted to end the ongoing tension on the Lebanon and Iran front.

America mediated formula failed

A comprehensive peace agreement was drawn up between Israel and the Lebanese government under the mediation of the US administration. Under this blueprint, there was a plan to completely ban all military activities of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and completely hand over control of that strategic area to the Lebanese Army.

rejected the proposal

Hezbollah chief Naeem Qasim rejected this proposal outright. The organization argues that they were not included at the negotiating table, therefore any decision taken by the Lebanese government behind their back is not acceptable to them. Hezbollah has indicated that it will continue its military presence in border areas and rocket attacks against Israel.

Israel’s tough stance

After this stubborn stance of Hezbollah, Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz has also issued a strong statement. He made it clear that the Israeli Defense Forces will stand firm on their front in southern Lebanon and the ongoing ground and air military operations there are not going to stop. Let it be known that in the month of March, Israel had also started large-scale military action in Lebanon in parallel with the direct conflict with Iran.

Difficulties increased due to Iran’s warning

After this diplomatic deadlock, there is a possibility of further fire of war in the region. Iran has already warned Washington that a ceasefire in Lebanon is the first and essential condition for any nuclear or strategic agreement with the US. Tehran has also recently indicated that if Israel does not stop bombing Beirut and southern Lebanon, it may intervene directly in this war.

Lebanon is becoming a hindrance

Donald Trump currently wants to make a major agreement with Iran, which includes opening the Strait of Hormuz completely safely to global trade and setting strict conditions on Iran’s nuclear program. But this Lebanese front has now become the biggest obstacle for Trump’s entire foreign policy.

Talking about the ground situation, the tension in the Gulf region is not limited to Lebanon only. This week’s missile attacks on Gaza, Northern Israel and Kuwait Airport have made the situation more explosive. Despite American announcements, the gunpowder on the ground is not showing signs of stopping.
