Big action in Bhangar bomb blast case, NIA arrested mastermind Shaukat Mollah

Kolkata: The main accused in West Bengal’s famous Bhangar bomb blast and former Trinamool Congress MLA Shaukat Mollah has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency. The Central Investigation Agency has called Shaukat the main accused and mastermind of this case. NIA has also alerted the Border Security Force on Friday so that they can avoid crossing the international border.

Planned to flee to Bangladesh

On Thursday, when the NIA team raided the house of Shaukat Mollah in Bhangar tehsil of South 24 Parganas district, he dodged and escaped on a motorcycle. The investigating agency had received initial inputs that they were planning to cross the India-Bangladesh border through the river.

Shaukat had planned to surrender in a Kolkata court. But as soon as they got wind of it, NIA caught them near Kolkata. On the other hand, the former MLA’s daughter has rejected these claims and said that he was not absconding but after being contacted by NIA, he himself surrendered before the law.

This case is related to a terrible explosion that took place in South Bamuniya village of Bhangar on March 19. It is being said that some time before the assembly elections, crude bombs were being made at a deserted place. One person was killed and three others were seriously injured in this terrible blast. Considering the seriousness of the case, the investigation was handed over to NIA in April under the direction of the Home Ministry.

Four arrests so far in the case

In this case, the investigating agency has so far searched 9 places. Then on Friday, NIA had also taken into custody another person named Shamsul Sardar, who had helped Shaukat escape on a motorcycle during the raid. Earlier, three people including Sainur Mollah, the driver of the vehicle used to transport the bomb makers, had been arrested.

With this high-profile arrest of Shaukat Mollah, a total of four people have been arrested in the case so far. In the recently concluded 2026 assembly elections, Shaukat Mollah had to face a crushing defeat from Bhangar seat. After which the state government also withdrew his security.
