The horrific hotel fire that took place in the Malviya Nagar area of the capital Delhi has shaken the entire Delhi. 21 people lost their lives in this tragic accident, while many people are hanging between life and death. Meanwhile, political and administrative turmoil has also intensified. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reached Max Hospital in Saket on Thursday, where she met the injured people and took stock of their treatment. The Chief Minister has instructed doctors for better treatment of the injured.
On the other hand, as the police investigation is progressing, the negligence behind this accident and shocking statements of the hotel owner are coming to light, which has shocked everyone.
Bravery of eyewitness: ‘Taken out mattresses from the shop and spread them on the road’
When the hotel caught fire, amidst the screams, some local people came forward as messiahs. Describing the scene of that scary morning, eyewitness Riazuddin Mansoori told how he saved people by risking his life.
Eyewitness Riazuddin Mansoori said:
“I saw that people were jumping down from the building to save their lives. The situation was very scary. Without wasting any time, I took out the mattresses from my shop and spread them on the road. Due to this, the lives of 8 people who jumped down were saved. We also provided sheets from our shop to cover the bodies of the deceased. Fire brigade vehicles had arrived on time and together we pulled out more than 20 people safely.”
Another eyewitness Mohammad Wasim Khan said that when he reached the spot at around 8:30 in the morning, the situation had gone out of control. He immediately called the hotel owner at 8:52 am. According to Wasim, “I spoke to the owner for only 26 seconds and told him that there was little hope of survival of the people trapped inside. The owner was aware of the fire, but he had no idea that the flames had become so terrible.”
Hotel owner’s shocking confession: ‘I didn’t have time’
When hotel owner Lokesh Bajaj, who was caught by the police, was interrogated, he shirked his responsibility and made very irresponsible revelations. According to sources, Bajaj admitted to the police that he did not manage the hotel himself.
-
Management was outsourced: Bajaj claimed that he did not have time to personally oversee the hotel’s day-to-day operations, billing and accounts. He had entrusted this entire work to someone else.
-
‘Everything goes on in Delhi’ attitude: During interrogation, it was revealed that the manager had assured the owner that running a hotel without documents is a ‘common thing’ and ‘everything in Delhi is done by Jugaad’.
-
Fire NOC missing: The most surprising thing was that the owner Lokesh Bajaj himself admitted that such a big hotel did not even have a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department.
