Sourav Ganguly calls Mamata-Yusuf Pathan’s claim false, says ‘talk to Yusuf yourself’

Kolkata: Former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly has given clarification on the reports in which it was said that Mamata Banerjee had sent a message through him to Yusuf Pathan to leave the Baharampur seat. Ganguly said that these allegations are completely false and he has never been involved in sending a message in any political matter.

What was the claim of the media report?    

A media organization of West Bengal had written in its report that Mamata Banerjee asked Sourav Ganguly to talk to Yusuf Pathan and ask him to resign from Baharampur seat. According to the report, Mamata herself wanted to contest the by-election from there. The report also claimed that Yusuf Pathan was not ready for this message.

Ganguly gave clarification by writing a letter    

Responding to these reports, Sourav Ganguly issued a letter. He wrote that the article published on the front page wrongly said that I had contacted Baharampur MP Yusuf Pathan and conveyed Mamata Banerjee’s message. Ganguly clarified that nothing like this had happened.

He appealed to the media not to publish news based on rumors and speculations without checking the facts. Ganguly said that the allegations made in the article were far from the truth and it was necessary to cross check before publishing.

Dada also clarified that Mamata Banerjee never asked him to give any message to Yusuf Pathan. Nor did he himself ever say anything like this to Yusuf. He said that he has not been involved in political matters at any level nor has he ever worked with anyone to convey political messages.

After Ganguly’s statement, the ongoing speculations in this matter have come to an end. Discussions are still going on on the strategy of Trinamool Congress regarding Baharampur seat and by-election, but Ganguly has completely distanced himself from it.
