What is Akhilesh Yadav saying?

Akhilesh Yadav wrote, ‘The era in which the police become criminals is Kaliyuga. Seeing the police excesses taking place during the time of the BJP government and hearing the harsh remarks made by the Allahabad High Court on the police system of the BJP, morally the BJP government has no right to rule, but words like morality, impartiality, integrity, honesty and justice do not exist in the BJP’s dictionary.

Akhilesh Yadav, National President, Samajwadi Party:-
‘In the BJP rule, the police are becoming ‘corrupt puppets’ of BJP’s corruption and are taking the law into their own hands for the political gains of power by adopting illegal-criminal methods in place of the Constitution.’

Akhilesh Yadav said, ‘Corrupt policemen should remember two things, BJP is not anyone’s relative. The Constitution will always be there, these BJP people are in the last phase. BJP people are definitely leaving and will never come back. Justice says today, BJP does not want it.

What does the High Court say on UP Police?

According to the report of NDTV, Allahabad High Court has said that the police of Uttar Pradesh is more loyal to the governments and not to the Constitution. Justice Vinod Diwakar also made a scathing attack on the landlord thinking of politicians and bureaucrats in the state. The court said that there has been deep political infiltration in the administrative machinery in UP for the last several years. Transfers, postings and promotions no longer depend on merit but on political loyalty.

‘Loyal to the authorities’

Allahabad High Court said, ‘Officers who are loyal to those in power get good postings like commissionerates of cities or profitable districts. Whereas those who work independently are sent to bad places as punishment.

‘Police pleases the ruling government, not the Constitution’

Justice Diwakar said, ‘Police officers are more engaged in pleasing the ruling government rather than the Constitution. Field officers adapt their conduct to political bosses due to fear of transfer-posting.

Reprimanded on encounter also

The Allahabad High Court also pointed towards encounter killings, selective action and misuse of the Gangster Act. The court further said that many officers consider the rule of law not as a constitutional responsibility but as a hindrance in their work. Arrests are made without due process, FIRs are arbitrarily filed or suppressed and preventive detention is used arbitrarily.

Why has Justice Diwakar said this?

Justice Diwakar was hearing a case related to the Gangster Act. He also criticized the role of the Home Secretary and said that some Home Secretaries have been working for personal and outside interests. The court also mentioned the case of Bikaru village related to the Vikas Dubey encounter. Eight policemen were killed in that operation, but the officer responsible was only given a formal warning.

The court called it an example of a culture of impunity. Allahabad High Court said that constitutional governance cannot be a slave to the personal gains of any person or power. The state system should be accountable to the law and the Constitution, not to any ruling party.
