How did the controversy start?

Devraj Malik, resident of Dayanand Nagar, Shamli, has alleged in the complaint lodged with the police that his son Ayush Malik was systematically lured into a love affair. Later, pressure was put on him to convert to Islam. According to the complaint, Chandni Qureshi, resident of Kajiwada, and several of her family members were involved in this alleged conspiracy. Based on the complaint, the police have named 10 people including Chandni.

It has been alleged in the FIR that about four years ago, an alleged Nikahnama was prepared to make the relationship between Ayush and Chandni look legitimate. The complainant claims that the accused put mental pressure on Ayush, tried to inspire other members of the family to convert and threatened to face dire consequences if they protested. Apart from this, allegations have also been made of trying to take over Ayush’s earnings and family property.
