With this new system, samples will be delivered to the testing center on time, and it will also pave the way for accurate and quick treatment of patients. Senior officials of the Health Department have said that now, this service has been formally launched from Khunti District Tuberculosis Centre. In the first phase, sputum samples of two TB positive patients have been sent to Ranchi-based Intermediate Reference Laboratory (IRL) through the postal department. From now on, samples of all the identified patients of the district will be sent under this regular system so that their sensitivity to the drug can be accurately tested.
Five-layer packaging to prevent infection
Special precautions are being taken to keep the samples of patients safe so that they do not get spoiled on the way and hence any kind of infection does not spread. The health department is using five-tier safe packaging as per the prescribed standards to send these samples. Due to the prompt logistics service of the postal department, these samples will reach the lab directly without any delay.

There will be many far-reaching benefits of this new initiative because earlier there was a delay in sending samples by waiting for courier or other alternative means. Now with the help of the postal department the report will be available soon. By receiving the test reports on time, doctors will know the exact condition of the patients and they can be treated by starting their medicines immediately. Apart from this, poor patients in rural areas will not need to go to Ranchi themselves or make rounds for their better check-up.
Target to make Jharkhand TB free by 2029
This initiative is part of a larger campaign of the state government to make Jharkhand completely TB free by the year 2029. For this, special TB Screening Campaigns are being run in the entire state, in which portable X-ray and AI technology is being used. Along with this, the government there is also providing Nikshay Poshan Support Amount of ₹ 1000 per month to TB patients for better nutrition.
