Blood pressure disorders can become a silent killer! Know what is the real difference between high and low BP
Due to today’s busy life, poor lifestyle and excessive mental stress, the problem of blood pressure has become very common. People in every household are either suffering from high blood pressure or are struggling with the problem of low blood pressure. But do you know what changes occur within our body in both these situations and which situation can prove to be more dangerous? Often people remain confused about the symptoms and identification of both, due to which they do not get the right treatment or care at the right time. In medical science, both these conditions are considered very sensitive for the body. Let us understand in detail from the perspective of an investigative reporter what is the basic difference between high and low BP, how you can identify them and which methods of care are most effective to avoid them.
Know what is high and low blood pressure and the real difference between them
The blood pressure of a healthy and normal human being is considered to be 120/80 mmHg, in which the upper number is called systolic pressure and the lower number is called diastolic pressure. When this graph continuously increases to 140/90 mmHg or above, this condition is called high blood pressure or hypertension in medical language. In this, the heart has to use much more force than normal to deliver blood to the body parts. Conversely, when blood pressure levels fall significantly below normal to 90/60 mmHg or below, it is called low blood pressure or hypotension. In this condition, adequate amount of oxygen and blood is not supplied to the vital organs of the body like the brain and heart.
Make accurate identification by symptoms, the body gives these different signals in both the situations.
High and low BP can be easily identified on the basis of the symptoms seen in the body. High blood pressure is also called the ‘silent killer’ because sometimes its symptoms are not visible in the beginning, but when it becomes severe, the patient starts having severe headache, heaviness or pain in the chest, difficulty in breathing, dizziness, blurred vision and sometimes nose bleeding. On the other hand, when there is low blood pressure, the patient suddenly starts feeling very weak and tired. Falling down due to dizziness or darkness appearing before the eyes is the most important symptom of low BP. Apart from this, cold and pale skin, frequent thirst, shallow breathing and lack of interest in doing any work are its initial signs.
These methods of care are very important for high blood pressure patients
If a person has high BP problem, he needs to make major changes in his lifestyle immediately. The first and foremost rule to control high BP is to immediately reduce the amount of salt (sodium) in the food. One should completely stay away from canned juices, pickles, papads and excessively oily or junk foods. Include green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains and potassium-rich foods like bananas and coconut water in your diet. Doing at least 30 to 45 minutes of walk, yoga or pranayam daily reduces stress levels and keeps blood pressure under control naturally. Along with this, never make the mistake of stopping BP medicine suddenly without doctor’s advice.
If there is a sudden attack of low blood pressure, immediately adopt these easy home remedies for care.
In case of low blood pressure, it is very important to provide immediate relief to the patient so that he does not become unconscious. As soon as symptoms of low BP appear, immediately give the patient a solution of Shikanji or ORS mixed with half a teaspoon of salt and sugar in a glass of water, because sodium helps in increasing the blood pressure immediately. Low BP patients should drink adequate amount of water and fluids like buttermilk, lassi or lemonade throughout the day so that dehydration does not occur in the body. Get up slowly instead of getting up from the bed or chair suddenly. Apart from this, soaking 7-8 almonds overnight and taking their paste with milk in the morning also provides permanent relief from the problem of low BP. If the situation is more serious, the safest step is to contact a doctor immediately.
