Chambal Gharials won the title of MPL T-20 women’s category, hard work paid off
Indore. Chambal Gharials won the women’s title of Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) T-20 Scindia Cup 2026 by defeating Gwalior Lionesses by 2 runs in a thrilling final match. The match played at Holkar Stadium in Indore continued till the last ball, where the dramatic ending full of no-balls and fours and sixes thrilled the spectators. Chambal Gharials women’s team, led by captain Pooja Vastrakar, won this prestigious trophy for the first time.
Captain Vastrakar expressed his happiness on winning the trophy and said, “I am very happy that we have won this trophy. It has been a great tournament for us as a team. We played good cricket consistently throughout the competition, stuck to our plans and our hard work paid off in the final.
Chambal Gharials owner Divyaraj Singh said that even before the final, we had full confidence in the quality and balance of our team. The players played excellent cricket throughout the tournament and performed well even in pressure moments. I congratulate the entire team for this wonderful achievement.
Batting first in the match, Chambal Gharials women’s team scored 146 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs. Openers Kanishka Thakur and Jincy George gave the team a good start. While Kanishka played an excellent half-century of 50 runs in 37 balls, George was out after scoring 15 runs in 19 balls. After this, Rahila Firdous scored 29 runs, captain Pooja Vastrakar scored 10 runs and Vaishnavi Singh scored unbeaten 26 runs in 20 balls.
Gwalior Lionesses, who came to chase the target of 147 runs, did not have a good start and Aashna Patidar returned to the pavilion early after scoring 10 runs. After this, captain Nuzhat Parveen and Ishana Swamy kept the team in the competition. Ishana was playing after scoring 29 runs in 22 balls, but after her dismissal the course of the match changed. Soumya Tiwari was run out after scoring 4 runs and Anadi Tagde was also out after scoring 9 runs. Gwalior needed 20 runs to win in the last over.
In the last over, captain Nuzhat raised hopes by hitting a four on the first ball, but the next two dot balls increased the pressure. The match became more exciting on the last ball, when Parveen hit a six, but the ball was declared a no-ball. After this, 7 runs were needed to win on free-hit. Parveen could only hit a four on the last ball and Gwalior Lionesses lost the match by 2 runs after scoring 144 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs.
