US-Iran Peace Deal: Dispute over the amount of $12 billion, agreement to be signed in Geneva on Friday
Preparations are underway for a major peace agreement between America and Iran, but a dispute has arisen between the two countries over the frozen amount of $12 billion. The agreement is to be signed in Geneva, Switzerland on Friday, but the two countries have different opinions on the conditions for releasing the money.
what is the whole matter
US President Donald Trump had announced on 13 and 14 June 2026 that a peace agreement has been reached with Iran. After this he also ordered to end the US naval blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran claims that under a 14-point agreement (MoU), the US will have to return a total of $24 billion of frozen funds. Iran wants the first installment of $12 billion to be given to it even before the talks begin. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has made it clear that unless America returns the money and ends the blockade, a final deal is difficult.
what does america say
On the other hand, US officials have rejected Iran’s claims. America says that no money will be given until Iran fully accepts all the terms of the agreement. President Trump had already said that no money will be given until the notice comes. America is considering it as a ‘pay-for-performance’ deal, that is, you will get money only when the work is done.
important information
Pakistan has played the role of mediator in this agreement. US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are expected to attend the signing event. At present, America is continuing its ‘Economic Fury’ strategy so that Iran’s military network can be stopped.
