20 rebel Lok Sabha MPs of Trinamool Congress (TMC) met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s residence on Sunday and submitted a letter to him informing him that they are merging with the Nationalist Citizen Party of India (NCPI). The rebel MPs are now joining NCPI so that they are not disqualified.
Due to constitutional rules and anti-defection law, if two-thirds of the members of a party merge with another party, they are not disqualified. Rebel MPs say they are more than two-thirds of the TMC.

Why has this faction separated from TMC?
BJP won the West Bengal Assembly elections. There was a split in Trinamool Congress. When Ritabrata Banerjee opened a front with more than 60 MLAs, the MPs also broke Mamata Banerjee’s party. The MPs were angry with Abhishek Banerjee and did not like his increasing interference in the party.
Why have these MPs joined NCPI?
Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has said that she considers Prime Minister Narendra Modi as her leader, she will work with NDA in the interest of the country. Sudip Bandyopadhyay, one of the biggest leaders of Trinamool Congress, also belongs to this group. He is the senior most MP but has now rebelled. He said that at present his colleagues are going to NCPI, but when the Parliament session starts in July, they will stake their claim on Trinamool Congress as they have the majority.

Sayoni Ghosh: How will BJP tolerate?

BJP surrounded her a lot on this issue, now she is an ally of BJP. When Mamata Banerjee had accused BJP after losing the elections, Kakoli Ghosh had shared this on her Instagram, accusing BJP of genocide and disturbing law and order. Now she is a special friend of BJP in the NDA alliance. She has often been vocal in Parliament on the issue of inflation and LPG.
Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Mamata’s friend, now joins NDA
Sudip Bandyopadhyay has been counted among the most trusted leaders of Mamata Banerjee. He has been a 6-time MP and has been involved in the party’s think tank. Now he has also left Mamata Banerjee. The MPs who have been staunch critics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his policies have now become staunch allies of the NDA.
How will Shatabdi Roy make friends with NDA?
Shatabdi Roy, film actress, has been a 4-time MP from Birbhum. She has been like a friend to Mamta Banerjee. She is the Vice President of West Bengal Trinamool Congress, now she has betrayed Mamata Banerjee. Till May 24, she kept accusing BJP of EVM rigging. Kept rejecting the results of FALDA. He alleged election rigging and violence. She has given open threat to BJP.
Regarding ED action, she has said that BJP cannot win the ideological war, hence it is harassing the opposition leaders through threats, fear and raids.
