ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026: Key player battles to watch out for in ENG W vs IRE W match

Match number eight of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 will feature hosts England taking on Ireland at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Southampton. Both teams come into the game on the back of different results. The hosts began their campaign with an 87-run win over Sri Lanka.

Irelandon the other hand, lost their opening game to Scotland by 40 runs. Gaby Lewis, the Irish skipper, would be hopeful for a better outing with the bat and also exercise some control with the ball in hand. The bowlers, barring Ava Cunning, were able to do well in the previous game against Scotland.

Here are the top three player battles to watch out for in the ENG-W vs IRE-W encounter

Amy Jones vs Arlene Kelly

Two experienced players who have done well for their respective sides in this format of the game. Amy Jones has played 132 T20I games for England, scoring over 1800 runs with seven fifties. The 33-year-old has been a great foil to Danni Wyatt-Hodge at the top of the order. Arlene Kelly is Ireland’s most seasoned campaigner with 89 wickets in her career. The right-arm seamer will enjoy the conditions in Southampton, where the ball tends to swing under the lights.

Lauren Bell vs Amy Hunter

Fast bowler Lauren Bell has created a huge reputation for herself with the new ball. 25-year-old pacer has already picked 61 wickets from just 42 games as her pace and bounce tend to trouble the batters. At the age of 20, Amy Hunter is one of the finest batting prospects to come out of Ireland. The right-handed batter has scored 1609 runs from 64 matches and strikes the ball at 114, and is a very dangerous player in the powerplay overs.

Ava Cunning vs Danni Wyatt Hodge

English batter Danni Wyatt Hodge began the tournament with a masterful century against the Lankans. The 35-year-old has scored 139 runs from her last three T20I matches and is in very good form. With 11 wickets in five games, Ireland seamer Ava Cunnin is rising the ranks as one of the best seamers in the T20I format. The 22-year-old bowled well against Scotland and kept her side in the contest. If the Irish eves have to dismiss the veteran batter from England, then Ava will be the one they will be looking at to do the job.
