Controversy over Ram statue in Bangladesh: Temple committee stopped construction work after threats

New Delhi . A controversy has emerged over the construction of a statue of Lord Ram at a religious site belonging to the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh. Following increasing protests and alleged threats regarding the statue being built in a temple complex in Palashbari area of ​​Rangpur division, the temple committee has decided to temporarily stop the construction work. This development has once again intensified the debate regarding the security of religious minorities and communal harmony in the country.

According to the temple committee, protest was lodged by some fundamentalist elements regarding the construction of the statue. The situation became more sensitive when a local preacher allegedly made statements from a public forum regarding the removal of the under-construction statue and its demolition. After these statements, there was a fear of increasing tension in the area and an atmosphere of concern was created among the local people.

In view of the situation, the temple management decided to stop the construction work with the aim of preventing the dispute from escalating further and maintaining social harmony. A member of the committee said that this decision has not been taken under any pressure but giving priority to peace and social harmony. He clarified that in future, if the conditions become favorable and there is a consensus among the local communities, then resumption of construction work can be considered.

The temple committee said in its statement that keeping in mind the broader interests of the society and the country, the construction of the statue has been postponed for the time being. He also said that before any decision in future, suggestions will be taken from local citizens, religious leaders and concerned parties so that no dispute of any kind arises.

According to reports, some inflammatory statements also came out during the dispute, which raised fears of increasing tension in the area. Local administration and security agencies are keeping an eye on the situation. Although no major violent confrontation has been reported, precautionary measures are being taken in view of the sensitivity.
