The purpose behind the construction of this palace was to protect and counter external threats.

Amer Fort is a stunning blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture. The fort consists of four distinct sections. The main entrance to the fort is through the ‘Suraj Pol’ or Sun Gate, which opens directly into the main courtyard. ‘Jaleb Chowk’ is one of the main courtyards, which houses the ‘Sheetla Mata’ temple within the main palace complex. The other courtyards, renowned for their grandeur, are the ‘Diwan-i-Aam’, ‘Sheesh Mahal’, and ‘Sukh Mahal’. The carvings, precious stone inlay, enameling, mosaic work, and large mirrors throughout the Amer Fort add to its grandeur. The fort’s most striking entrance is the two-story Ganesh Pol, adorned with intricate paintings and delicate latticed screens.

The popular light and sound show at Amer Fort depicts the royal history of Jaipur on the facade of the magnificent Amer Fort. During the 50-minute show, colorful lights illuminate the structure and reflect beautifully on the Maota Lake, reflecting the legendary past of Amer Fort dating back more than 600 years.
