Bananas stay fresh for 26 days without browning with 1 storage method

Bananas often go brown and mushy before we are ready to use them. However, there are clever ways to keep them fresher for longer. There are a number of techniques out there for stopping the browning of bananas, but this one keeps them fresh and good to eat for as long as 26 days, making it one of the most effective methods. It takes a few extra steps, but it significantly extends the lifespan of your bananas.

Amy Cross, who shares content online under the handle @amycrosslegacy, demonstrated the method to viewers online. In a clip that has received hundreds of likes on TikTok, she shows the two simple steps that she takes to keep her bananas fresh, revealing that the method gives her bananas for 26 days, remaining vibrant with yellow skins for that amount of time.

Firstly, she cuts up the bananas and leaves the skin on. Then, she simply places them in a glass jar, and puts that into the fridge.

“These are the bananas I purchased on March 13, and I cut this into thirds and put it into a jar, so they’re 26 days old, she tells her viewers.

Her objective was to determine whether she could maintain a sliced banana’s freshness for 12 hours, but she surpassed that with 26 days of impressive freshness.

She added: “The whole goal of putting the bananas in the jar was to see if I can get a cut banana to last 12 hours, and it’s been 26 days.”

Bananas stay fresh when they are maintained at around 12 degrees. They will ripen more quickly if they are exposed to hot conditions, as well as too much sunlight. A cool, dark spot is the best place to store them.

If you have already peeled bananas and want to keep them fresh, you can coat them in some citrus juice to keep them good to eat and ready to throw into a summery fruit salad whenever you please.
