Major drone attack on Moscow creates panic, oil refinery and air services affected
New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Moscow once again became the target of a major drone attack. According to Russian officials, Ukraine carried out a widespread drone attack on the capital and its surrounding areas, causing damage to several vital installations. After the attack, fire broke out at many places and clouds of smoke were visible far and wide. Due to security reasons, flights at major airports in Moscow had to be temporarily stopped.
Oil refinery suffered damage
The Russian administration said that the main target of the attack was a large oil refinery located in the south-eastern part of the capital. After the drone attack, incidents of explosion and fire were reported there. According to eyewitnesses, the flames were seen rising to a great height and a thick cloud of smoke spread in the surrounding areas.
According to reports, some storage tanks and parts related to fuel processing of the refinery have been affected. This plant is considered important for the fuel supply of the Moscow region, so this attack has also increased concerns about energy security.
Air defense active, yet many drones reached the target
Russia’s Defense Ministry claims that its air defense system shot down a large number of drones overnight. According to officials, many drones moving towards the capital were destroyed on the way, but some drones were successful in penetrating the security cordon and reached their designated targets.
S500, S400, S300, all the defense systems of Russia 🇷🇺 failed and Ukraine 🇺🇦 has carried out the biggest drone attack ever on Moscow’s biggest oil refinery.

Some commercial and residential areas were also damaged due to the attack. Windows of many buildings were broken and there were reports of debris falling at some places. However, initial information has not confirmed any major civilian loss.
Impact on air services
As a precautionary measure, security agencies temporarily halted flight operations at Moscow’s major airports. This decision affected hundreds of passengers and many flights. After the situation became normal, the authorities started the process of gradually restoring the services.
Different claims of Ukraine and Russia
From Ukraine’s side, this action has been described as focused on strategic and military goals. Whereas Russia has termed it as a serious provocation and has warned of a strong reaction. Experts believe that this attack reflects Ukraine’s long-range drone capability, which has opened up new dimensions of warfare.
This incident has once again made it clear that the Russia-Ukraine conflict is no longer limited to the border areas, but is also directly affecting areas strategically and economically important for both countries.
